This panel discussion features three labor trafficking survivor-leader experts who will explain the dynamics of this specific type of exploitation.

Sarah, survivor-leader of labor trafficking, Survivor Network NC

Sarah is a survivor-leader of labor trafficking with 10 plus years of experience in advocacy. She has a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern University and a master’s in theological studies from Fuller Seminary.

She is currently a PhD candidate in her field. She is an ordained reverend, pastor of an interdenominational church, and theologian. She has worked with various nonprofits and religious organizations over the years.

Sarah is an advisory board member for Survivor Network NC, a trauma-certified educator, and a diversity and inclusion coach.

Sarah has studied and dedicated much of her research to social concerns such as gender, race, disability, and systemic injustices and exploitation. As a keynote speaker, panelist, presenter, and advocate she has traveled the country for different speaking and presentation engagements on human trafficking. Sarah is also a homeschool mom to two teens and a newborn, a blogger, an artist, and an advocate for Arab culture as a Syrian-American.

"Marlene," survivor-leader of labor trafficking

"Marlene" is a survivor of labor trafficking and exploitation in the Midwest as a young adult. Her experience is unique as it involves a religious element. Therefore, "Marlene" advocates for protective laws within religious communities, greater accountability, and deeper awareness within religious organizations. She offers her insight to strengthen the fight against human trafficking and holds great hope that, as a society, we can improve our protective response to victims of trafficking and hold traffickers accountable.

Jennifer, survivor-leader of labor trafficking, NC Survivor Network

Jennifer is a current member of the NC Survivors Network. Jennifer holds a BA in Humanities, with concentrations in Psychology and Sociology. She is a trained advocate for victims of Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault. She is an Elevate Academy graduate (https://elevate-academy.org/).
