Dr. John Wright, MD
John Esper Wright, MD, is a pediatrician and professor of Pediatrics at ECU. His expertise is in child abuse and he is board certified in this pediatric sub-specialty. Dr. Wright trained at the University of Miami and started a pediatric practice in Fort Lauderdale in 1987. He joined the Holy Cross Medical group practice in 1999. In addition to practicing pediatrics, he served as the medical director of the Broward County Child Protection Team from 1989 to 1991 and from 1999 until he moved to Eastern North Carolina in 2017. He was also two-term chairman of the departments of pediatrics at Holy Cross Hospital and Broward General Medical Center and president of the Broward County Pediatric Society. He has evaluated thousands of children who have been abused or are involved in child abuse investigations. He has written on several topics related to child abuse including a two-part article in the Journal of Rare Diseases on the subject of Munchausen by Proxy/Medical Child Abuse. He has lectured extensively and currently teaches pediatric residents and students at ECU/Brody School of Medicine, while actively seeing patients at TEDI BEAR CAC and in the pediatric outpatient clinic. He is co-author of Child Abuse: Prevention through Understanding.

Bonnie Jean Kuras, M. ED., is currently a training specialist at TEDI BEAR CAC providing education in the recognition, prevention and response to child sexual abuse; Adverse Childhood Experiences, the science of Resilience and Circle of Security Parenting to community members and various agencies in Eastern N.C. Prior to her move to N.C. She spent nearly 30 years as an educator/adjunct college instructor, learning and language disabilities specialist and building principal in elementary and middle school in the state of NH. She was nationally named the Darkness2Light-Stewards of Children Authorized Facilitator of the Year Award for 2021.Ann L. Parsons MN, APRN Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner-BC
Ann Parsons started her career as a pediatric nurse in an Atlanta children’s hospital where she worked for 4 years until finishing a master in nursing degree. Since then, she has spent 31 years as a pediatric nurse practitioner. For the first 16 years, she provided primary care to children in Florida, Illinois and North Carolina. For the past 15 years her role has included medical evaluation and care for children experiencing concerns for child maltreatment, abuse and neglect and work with the associated multidisciplinary team involved with each child. In addition she teaches professionals and community members about child maltreatment.
